Bull run and bear market are opposite tapes. The order is not the same.

In a crypto bull run, dips get bought and highs step up. In a bear market, bounces get sold and lows step down. People ask the difference because they want to know which button to press. At FxPro a crypto CFD, where your entity lists the symbol, can be long or short the price. You still do not hold the coin. This page, 4 October 2026, does not label today's market.

Same chart, opposite habit

On the way up, a red day is often a pause. On the way down, a green day is often a pause. Traders who use one habit for both tapes donate the account. The sketch on this page is the shape, not Bitcoin's history.

The advances after the 2012, 2016 and 2020 halvings are the episodes people point at. They ended. The next one has no date here.

What the CFD changes

A long CFD wants the bull run. A short CFD wants the bear tape. Both pay the spread. Both can be closed by margin. Shorting a bull run because 'it has gone too far' is how accounts die in the middle of a rise.

Confirm the symbol, then use the demo to see a 5 percent day on your size. Scalping notes, if you want the short hold instead: scalping.

Why people still show up

They want the rise to pay them. A CFD is one way to try, without a wallet. It is also a way to lose the deposit when the pause is deeper than the margin. Size for the pause, not for the poster candle.

Which button, in practice

Long when the dips are still being bought, and only at a size that survives one of those dips. Short only when bounces are failing, and only if you can stand being early. Flipping from long to short because a candle looks tall is how both sides of a bull run lose.

Write the switch rule down: what would have to happen for you to stop being long. If the answer is 'I will feel it', you do not have a rule.

FAQ

Can I short a bull run at FxPro?

If the symbol exists on your entity, a CFD can be short. Shorting a rising tape because it 'looks high' is a common way to lose money.

Are we in a bear market?

This page does not say. It only separates the two shapes.
